Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE
RELEASE Early in the morning, the school's littlest students and their families and teachers gathered at the school to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the Stenton Family Manor. As with last year over 1,000 sandwiches were made and delivered by the Oak Lane community to the Manor to help combat hunger in the Germantown and East Mt. Airy area. Later
in the day, the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Grade choir put on a concert
at Brighton at Ambler while others from Oak Lane spent time at the Evergreen
Adult Day Program in Chestnut Hill. Arthur Chapman, Recreational Therapy
Assistant at Evergreen, welcomed the Oak Lane visitors with great enthusiasm
and warmth. This project, organized and run by Oak Lane, is a big hit
among program attendees. Mr. Chapman reports that what makes the visit
so special and satisfying for members of the Evergreen community is the
interaction with the kids. Oak Lane students from first graders to sixth
graders sat side-by-side with some new friends making colorful flower
vases, playing Bingo, and sometimes just talking. As an extension of this
project, Fifth Graders at Oak Lane continue their friendships with community
members of Evergreen and Brighton at Ambler through a pen pal program
initiated by Fifth Grade teacher and Community Service Coordinator, Sherry
Shaeffer. Oak Lane Day School is accredited by the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS), and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and the Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools (ADVIS). |
