| Whitpain
Township |
Oak Lane has benefited
from the support given by Whitpain Township regarding the care for
specimen and other unique trees found on our property. Our shared,
common goals of good property management have helped to provide for
and maintain healthier trees. Part of our curriculum, environmental
education begins with our youngest students and carries forward as
our graduates leave with an understanding of the science of trees,
birds, water, and more. |
| Wissahickon
Valley Watershed Association |
WVWA

| Reading
and Writing Project of Teachers College |
Founded and directed
by Lucy Calkins, the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project
is housed at Teachers College Columbia University. The Project supports
literacy instruction through research, writing and professional development.
Oak Lane teachers who participate in summer sessions learn how to
implement the program in the classrooms. In Writing Workshops, students
learn to observe their lives and the world around them, and to collect,
draft, revise, and publish narrative and expository texts. In Reading
Workshops, students are taught strategies and habits of effective
reading. They learn to talk, think and write about their reading,
with the ultimate purpose to live richly literate lives. Click
