Emphasis
is placed on fun exploration and discovery, and use of physical
educational equipment. At age-appropriate learning stations, students
develop motor skills, coordination, endurance and beginning gymnastic
skills. Simple games are played that support the development of
basic knowledge such as colors, shapes and direction. Creative movement
and music are often integrated into physical education activities
that allow for self-expression. Emphasis is placed on spatial awareness,
body control and listening skills. |
Primary
Physical
Education |
Through
teacher-created and other lightly organized games, students develop
basic game skills and cardiovascular endurance. They practice gymnastic
skills, dance, elementary juggling, and incorporate the use of rhythm
in their activities. Sportsmanship, working together, fair play
and listening skills are emphasized. Students play games that require
an increasing number of skills and directions, and apply their growing
skills and knowledge to specific sports and use of age-appropriate
equipment. |
Intermediate
Physical
Education |
As
students mature, a stronger emphasis is placed on their advancing
skill sets. Students continue to learn and develop game strategies,
problem-solving and cooperative skills through varied units such
as soccer, basketball, badminton, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee,
fitness, jump rope, hockey, and more. Major goals in this Division
include the nurturing of a positive self-concept, the encouragement
of good sportsmanship and a sense of fair play. |
